Student Showcase

Check out some of the great work happening in the OGA community!

Song Title One by Jane Doe

Instructor's Note: Jane did an excellent job applying modal interchange in the chorus, borrowing a minor iv chord to create a moment of powerful emotional gravity. The lyrical theme of 'finding light in darkness' is perfectly supported by this harmonic choice.

Notice how the bridge builds tension by sitting on the V chord, making the return to the final chorus feel incredibly satisfying.

Song Title Two by John Smith

Instructor's Note: This is a great example of the 'Show, Don't Tell' lyric writing principle. Instead of saying the character was sad, John wrote "The coffee's cold, the mail's unread / Just your ghost sitting on the bed," which paints a much more vivid picture for the listener.
